Group
Lesson Plan – Each
group will plan out their lesson and turn in one detailed lesson plan to the teacher
on Thursday January 25th. A rough structure and idea of the lessons will be
provided, but there will be preparation and creativity that need to be added. Groups
can design their own lesson as well. Each lesson will need an introduction,
main activity and closing segment which will be detailed in the specific
breakdowns on the back. Include a timeline adding up to 18 minutes (i.e.
Introduction 3 minutes, explanation 2 minutes…). The lesson plan should also
detail what each person’s role will be in each step of the lesson. Explain
exactly what will happen to the point that any person can teach your lesson
just by reading the plan. The final product should be typed and include all
materials and handouts attached. The plan should come with samples if
applicable. This is not a rough draft (20 points).
Practice
Lesson- Friday January 26th- Groups will teach
their lesson to other groups before we go to the elementary school. The lesson
should be completed, with each member knowing exactly what he or she should be
doing before students arrive in class. This is expected to be a final product
with all of the detail arranged before class and documented in the lesson plans
due at the beginning of this period. Groups will get graded on their lesson
organization, flow and time length. (20 points)
Revised
Lesson Plan- Groups must reflect on how the practice lesson
went in class and revise their lesson plan. This can include adding or omitting
materials, developing more materials, or making needed adjustments. Each group
will turn in their lesson plan at the beginning of the final work day (Tuesday
1/30) and will conference with Mr. Durnell during that period. The revised
lesson plan should come with all necessary handouts, samples, visuals,
materials, ect that are needed to teach the lesson. Revised lesson plan is
worth 15 points, conference is worth 10.
Permission
Slip- Each
individual must turn in a permission slip by Friday 1/19 or the points will be
lost. (5 pts)
Formal
Dress – Students
are required to dress professionally. Look at it as “dressing like a teacher”
day, because you will be a teacher that day. Yes, Friday is casual day and some
teachers don’t “dress like a teacher”, but you understand the expectation. A
person’s dress sends a message that dictates how you are interpreted. (10 pts)
Lesson
Observations – The
high school students will be spread out through four different elementary
school classrooms teaching students in small groups. Each room will have an
elementary and high school teacher observing and taking notes. In addition, Mr. Durnell will be floating
around and taking notes. Grades will be assigned on student performance. Do not
bring any candy to hand out to the elementary students. We will not bribe
students. (10 points)
Group
Evaluations – Each
student will be responsible for writing a detailed description of the work individuals
put into the project. There will also be an evaluation process for how students
fulfilled their role, specifically the lead teacher role. In addition, did the
student meet during 8th hour? These evaluations must be detailed,
turned in on time and in compliance with all of the directions. Students who
fail to follow directions will lose points for themselves. (30 points)
Elementary
Student Feedback-
Each elementary student will be given an evaluation sheet judging how each high
school group performed. Comments will be taken into account in assigning grades
to high school students. (10 points)
