We will be teaching in three elementary
classrooms. Each room will three groups of 3-4 high school students running
one of the three stations. Each elementary class will be broken into three groups
and assigned one of the stations to start.
Everyone will teach their lesson in 18 minutes and then the
elementary students will rotate to the next station. High school groups stay
where they are and prepare for the next group. Each member of the high school
group will alternate the following roles: lead teacher, assistant teacher, time
keeper, and support role.
· The Lead Teacher will introduce the lesson
to the students, answer questions, conduct the lesson and wrap everything up.
They are essentially running the lesson. The lead teacher is co-teaching with
the assistant teacher
· The Assistant Teacher will be next to the
lead teacher filling in any info that may be missed or reiterating important
instructions. They are kind of the safety net to make sure all is well for the
lead. The assistant is actively involved.
· Time Keepers will keep track of time and help in crowd
control. It will be necessary to cue the lead or assistant teacher on how much
time is left or when it will be time to move on to the next portion of the
lesson, especially with 18 minute lessons. This is an important role since each
lesson has a set amount of time and cannot go over.
· Support Role will be necessary in many cases. This
could just be reminding a student to keep his hands to himself or reminding
students that they need to raise their hands. If a student gets up and walks
away or becomes disruptive, the crowd control must deal with that situation
while the lesson continues. There will be teachers in the room to help, but
high school students should manage too. This person can help with instruction as
well as long as they are not taking the lead role.
